A quick note to say hello and a peek at what’s happening here. The weather has become cold and windy, we even had a bit of snow this week!
While it quickly melted, it’s reminded me I need to pick up the pace. I cut the last of the sage and brought it into dry for Thanksgiving stuffing (or do you call it dressing?) I brought in some pots of rosemary, begonias, and geraniums, hoping they will perk up the kitchen throughout the winter, along with the last of the garden peppers. I don’t think I have the energy to make pepper jam, any suggestions??
Jan you are so right - the green gingham skillet is on eBay!
Avocado looks to me like the 1970s so not super old, but just right for holding Candy onions in a farmhouse kitchen.
Will let you know what I do with the bead board – I am plotting and planning, scheming and dreaming! I also found some handwriting (plus the vet’s name and number) on the wall. Maybe it’s just me, but I think things like these are treasures. Not exactly sure what the last sketch is supposed to be…
And lastly, while staying up way too late to finish a book I’ve been reading, my Aurora app sent a notification that the Northern Lights “might” be visible in my location. Since this is a rare occurrence here in the Midwest, I grabbed my coat and outdoors I flew! And while they only lasted a few minutes before the clouds rolled in, it was an absolute thrill to see them.
We had 6 inches of snow Sunday. UGH Great pics of the Northern lights. One day I hope I can see them. Janice
ReplyDelete6 inches - oh wow! If we can see it, I’m sure you can, I don’t know that you’ll check back here tonight, but we should be able to see the lights again this evening. If you download the app titled Aurora, it will notify you if you could see them in your location. it’s often late at night between 10 and two, but it’s worth giving it a try, you’re so much farther north they would be amazing up there!
DeleteYour photos of the northern lights are INCREDIBLE!!! WOW! What a show! We were overcast last night so nothing here...but I wasn't even aware they were going to be visible until I started seeing all the photos people were posting on social media...from places where they usually aren't visible. I'll have to look into the app you mentioned. My house faces north but when I go out at night I usually go out the back door so wouldn't see them unless I knew to look for them. I, too, love the old writings on the wood. It's like peeking into someone's everyday world from another time. Re the peppers... The only kind I grow (when I grow them) are the large, green, bell peppers... I deseed them, wash them, dry them good and then cut them into quarters/eighths - whatever. Then I wrap them in pieces of foil and toss them in a freezer bag. That's probably too fussy for you with the volume (and smaller size) you have, but you probably wouldn't need the overkill method I use. I'm sure you use yours a lot quicker than I do.
ReplyDeleteHi Robin - the app is called Aurora and it’s free - no strings attached. I will say the notification sound is loud so just be ready. I guess meant to wake you up - but it can be toggled off. And the writing - I absolutely agree - part of another time. Oh I wish the barns could talk or I could travel back to visit. Does that sound mad?! I’ve found some ariel photos from the 50’s but would love to find ones much older - with the original family posed in front. I did find an old listing online of how many and what types of livestock they had. Hmmm maybe I’ll print those out and frame them. Ugh constantly feel I was born at the wrong time!

I know some folks make poppers with their peppers, using a cream cheese filling and enjoying as an appetizer. Or you could just chop and freeze them for stews, soups, etc.
I also find hidden treasures like the writing fascinating.

They are just beautiful - and what we see is nothing compared to what anyone living farther north must see. This time stepping outside, the skies were vivid red - worth staying up for! And poppers - why didn’t I think of that?! Only some of the peppers are jalapeños, but what’s to stop me from filling the others - I’ll just put some hot spices in the cream cheese - you’re a genius!
DeleteOh my goodness! You got snow! We always refer to it as Thanksgiving dressing, but it really is stuffing. Oh yes, where there are markings and writing on the wall adds to a home's character! How lovely the capture of the Northern Lights are in your photos! Look at that sweet face of Bailey!
ReplyDeleteOh, it was just a wee bit of snow, but it made me realize I need to move faster, and get things done! I’m guessing people call it stuffing when they stuff the turkey-I don’t do that so maybe that’s why I’ve always called it dressing! Oh Bailey is a snuggler that’s for sure - so glad she found us.- as the saying goes, who rescued who?!

Oh, it truly wasn’t much, but so pretty. And it's OK with me. I’m looking forward to early evenings, getting cozy, and just unwinding from the busyness of summer. The skies were red for the Northern lights this time - it would be fascinating to be in Sweden or somewhere much farther north to see all the dancing colors - I’m sure it’s absolute magic.
