snapshots of June...

"I wonder what it would be like
to live in a world where it is always June."

-LM Montgomery

June brings us sunny days, fragrant blossoms, and juicy strawberries. The days are long, fireflies twinkle, and there seems to be magic in the air as the summer solstice approaches.

Tinker Bell, posing, as always!

And let me introduce you to Kipper!

A neighbor found this little guy who was in need of a family to bottle feed him.
Of course we said yes...everyone needs a home!

The vet said he was about 2 weeks old...born the same time that we lost Azzie.

Coincidence?

Maybe.

Maybe not.

And this is Cornelia - Nelly for short.

Living in the country, it's not uncommon for cats & dogs to find their way here - or possibly be dropped off. She wasn't on the the local lost & found lists, and the vet didn't find a microchip in her.  A very friendly little lady...she's now a part of the barn cat family!

Bailey loves snuggling her stuffed pig!

In other news, our sweet Bailey was recently diagnosed with heartworm...she's on medication, as well as what we jokingly refer to as "house arrest" because she can't be outside for any extended amount of time. (It's a good thing she's a laid back sort of gal!)

The process to rid her of them is long...next month she will have an injection and stay at the vet clinic for observation. Once she's home we have strict rules...we can't let her do anything that will raise her heart-rate. No running, jumping, or getting excited...she stays inside, quietly, with only 3 or 4, 5-minute outdoor breaks each day, leashed so she doesn't move quickly. At this point we watch her closer than ever...she can't be left alone.

She'll get two more injections in August, and then it's still complete quiet for 8 more weeks.

Trust me, she'll be spoiled rotten!

That's the latest from my corner of the world...enjoy the week friends, and if you're in the middle of the heat wave as we are, keep as cool as possible!

  1. It's lovely to see a post from you, Mary. No heatwave here yet, but the forecast is set to improve as we head into the weekend, and it's about time.
Look at little Kipper! He's absolutely gorgeous, and I'm sure he will thrive with your love and care. And Nelly had probably heard what a wonderful home you could offer her, and found her way to you :)
I hope Bailey rests up and makes a swift recovery. She has the most beautiful eyes. Just to let you know my new blog URL https://alongthewaywithj.blogspot.com

    1. Thank you for stopping by...I know the days are busy. Temperatures are very hot here with heat advisories throughout the week...I guess a good excuse to enjoy ice cream! Kipper is growing quickly and Nelly is a loving girl. Thanks for your very kind words...many animals have found their way here; some stayed, some moved on. My goal is always to keep them cozy, healthy, and feeling loved. Each of them have needed a place to call home. What's one more?!

  2. What glorious photos you've captured! June must be lovely there.
Enjoy your new charges. They are quite adorable.

Praying for Bailey (and her caretakers) during this difficult time. I see complete healing and a deeper bond forming. Blessings...

    1. Daisy thank you...this week, like so many other places, it is just HOT. It's in the mid to upper 90's and that's unheard of for June. Maybe an odd day here and there in August, but never June. And oh the fun we've had with the Kipper...he's a bouncy boy that's for sure. Thank you for your thoughtful words...for Bailey and for us. She's just so sweet, we want her to be healthy and strong and to be able to enjoy zooming through the back yard again. Thanks so much for the kind wishes.

    1. Thanks Margaret! That little Kipper is a whirlwind now; however, Tinker Bell rules the roost, as the saying goes. I'm certain she'll teach him some manners!

  4. Ugh! Sorry to hear about Bailey. I don't think you are very far from here, but your wheat is ahead of ours. Your photos are so rich lending beauty to the subjects 💕

    1. The wheat seems to have turned so quickly...some farmers have already harvested it and are putting in soybeans for a second crop. I appreciate your thoughtful words...Bailey will be getting lots of tlc, and I may have to put on some nature videos - I'm sure she's missing the outdoors!

  5. All your kitties are just stinkin' adorable! My very "first" cat (the first cat my parents finally allowed me to keep in the house - we grew up on a farm and they believed cats belonged outside) was named Tinkerbell. And, strangely, my sister has a cat named Nelly that looks just like your Nelly...and had a cat named Kipper as well. Her daughter, my niece, currently lives on a farm and is (too) familiar with pets finding their way to their place...most dropped off. She ended up with a litter of 4 kittens several months back which needed bottle feeding and, of course, became house residents. Hope you stay cool. We had a 1-day heat wave yesterday - but windy so it didn't feel as bad as it could have...Tomorrow we will be lucky to get to 70º. Crazy weather in Nod as always. ~Robin~

    1. Oh Robin, how funny, what are the chances you would know a Kipper, Nelly, and Tinker Bell, too? How sweet of your niece to keep the kittens...she was certainly busy bottle feeding 4! And 70 degrees sounds so wonderful...it's supposed to be 93 here tomorrow. We usually don't hit the 90's except for maybe a few days in August...it's miserably humid. I know some people love that heat, alas, I'm not one of them!

  6. Mary your photos are beautiful. It's been hot and humid here as well. Summer has arrived! I'm so sorry about Bailey. I had no idea what kind of treatment it entails. The cats are absolutely precious. Happy summer solstice!

    1. Hi Staci-sorry that you’re suffering through the same heat wave - It’s never this hot in June. I am glad that Bailey is a laid-back and quiet girl-it’s just scary and we’ll have to be so cautious. I hope all is well there – stay as cool as you can!

    1. Oh, thank you - I always tell the kids, everyone needs a home! We’ve had some of the best cats and dogs come here - as well as goats and chickens that needed a new home. 💕 What are my chances of a stray horse, cow, or sheep wandering by?! Thanks for your good wishes for Bailey - I’ll keep keep everyone updated on how she’s doing . Enjoy your summer too - so glad the heat wave has passed!
