In our part of the Midwest, Old Man Winter has January firmly in his grasp...temperatures continue to plunge (we woke up to a brutal -10 yesterday morning), the northern winds are strong, and the notorious black ice has made its return. If you've not experienced driving on black ice, it's truly a dangerous thing...a thin coating of icy glaze on roads, and while the ice itself isn't black, it's practically invisible tricking drivers into believing the road is dry and safe.
So, among frosty winds and slate-colored skies, you know what this "fiercely independent" gal is doing...pulling on a barn coat and stacking wood, arranging an old quilt over the door of goat pen, and tossing the chickens a few handfuls of scratch grains as a treat before bedtime.
Friday night, and it's a quiet evening...although vaccinated, this week both of the kids tested positive for COVID, so they're curled up under fleece blankets getting their rest...hubby and I are hoping to steer clear of it, but really...what are the chances?
There's a cozy fire burning in the kitchen fireplace and I'm ready for a cup of herbal hibiscus tea. Snowy days give us the time to settle in and the freedom to daydream...that's exactly what I'm going to do. Pen and paper in hand, dreaming dreams and making wishes.
Below are a few snapshots of what it looks like in our corner of the world...hope all is well wherever you are!

Not as cold here in Michigan but still not liking it. How wonderful to have a fireplace in your kitchen. It must really be cozy! Enjoy it. Janice
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, sorry to hear about the kids testing positive. Hoping it will be an incredibly mild case for you all, if you all end up getting it. I'm pretty positive I had it a couple of months ago, although I tested negative. Twice. I had very mild symptoms including loss of smell (it really is the strangest thing EVER) that only lasted 2 days, thankfully. I'm assuming because I'm vaccinated is why it was very mild, all symptoms lasting a total of 4 days. (my husband never had any symptoms at all)
ReplyDeleteYes, we have dipped well into the negatives too. Happy you have your furnace back up and running! One thing I am so grateful for this time of year is having daylight for a bit longer every day. It makes such a difference.
LOVE the shot of the lit coop. So beautiful!
Hugs to you all. 💗
Janice - not sure about your neck of the woods, but it sounds like snow and ice may be coming our way in the next couple of days. Oh well, it is winter! Yes, I love that fireplace...wonder what it all looked like back when it was built. Keep warm & cozy!
ReplyDeleteStaci - Thanks for the kind thoughts...the kids seem to be bouncing back slowly but surely (ahhh to be young!). I had a day of chills but that was all...hoping it's passed us by. It would be so odd to lose the sensation of smell or taste, glad it was short-lived for you...and lucky hubby! Thanks for liking the chicken coop photo...I know not everyone uses a heat lamps, but there's so much open space for the wind to zoom around them, I just feel better knowing they have a little something that might help fight the chill. Take care...hope all is well!
