This last week flew by, and while both kids were home, the days were filled with simple things…just for fun things. Here’s a quick peek at what we did:
A quick day-trip to (so they say)The World’s Only Mothman Museum - who is Mothman? A legendary creature with wings and glowing red eyes - probably hanging out with Big Foot, Chupacabra, and the Loch Ness Monster!
The museum was in a sweet little Mayberry-like town…
with a great antique shop - the most Fiestaware I’ve seen in one place!
I’m searching high and low for a new cupboard to hold scrapbooks (oh-so many scrapbooks) - this one’s caught my eye. Needs a little love, but a good price. Maybe…a little sanding out of the rough spots and a new coat of paint?? I’m still thinking it over.
Here’s one I fell in love with, found a picture online, saying it came from an 1867 barn - swoon! It listed a town but no other contact information, so now I’m doing some sleuthing, hoping I can narrow down where it might be-ugh, chances are slim.
Friday my daughter had a terrific idea - we should celebrate the summer solstice!
The evening light was perfectly gorgeous on the longest day of the year - this was taken at 9 PM.
There’s something magical about the summer solstice…dancing fireflies, golden light, such vivid colors. A simple joy on a beautifully long day.
I know for many of us extremely high temperatures are coming this week; take care of yourselves, keep as cool as possible, and stay safe. Catch up with you soon.
I have never been in an IKEA store it is several hours drive away. But how fun to see mothman and celebrate the solstice.
ReplyDeleteWe are in the horrid heat and tomorrow is supposed to even worse and I hate the heat. I have taken up residence in our bedroom the only room with air conditioning.
Cathy
Oh Cathy, I’m so sorry, I know how horrible that heat is. The high was 93 today, I did all of my flower watering and garden tilling about 7 AM. I popped in and out a few times quickly and that was it. While I love summertime sweet corn and tomatoes, I absolutely hate the heat and humidity. Let’s hope it passes soon - you curl up in that air conditioning with a good book or a favorite movie!
DeleteHello, lovely friend! Always find such peace and comfort here. Your daughter sounds like my Madison. She celebrated the Summer Solstice too! Your evening sounds perfect. I will have to show my kids the Mothman Museum!!! They love him! Thank you for offering a cozy, calm place in this hectic world, my friend. Stay cool!
ReplyDeleteBillie Jo, you say the nicest things - thank you! And that makes me laugh, I didn’t think anyone would know who Mothman was! The museum was fun - small, but filled with stories of the Men in Black, so many newspaper articles, interviews playing on-screen, and T-shirts galore! Thank you so much for stopping by- I always love hearing from you.
DeleteI am swooning over both of those cupboards...and I would not paint the white one either. I have heard of the Mothman. Cute town. Did you happen to get your crock? Wondering minds are curious. Sounded like a wonderful way to bring in the Summer solstice. The nearest IKEA to us is 2 hours away. Janice
ReplyDeleteI knew you would tell me not to paint the white one! Time for a lesson, how do I know if it’s really old and I shouldn’t touch it or if somebody just has beaten it up and it’s new? I’ll need to do more homework! I thought I could tell by looking the red one it was old, I showed it to a friend and she told me how it would need sanded and repainted…no, no, no! I love the shade of red-sigh. I haven’t been back to the town with the crock-I’ll go this week and check it out. I really do think it will be hundreds of dollars - they had a Mason jar of marbles that was $250! I’ll keep you posted-
DeleteSounds like fun was on the menu! Glad you got to spend some time with your favorite girl.
ReplyDeleteThe heat is distressing. I am trying to get my chooks through it with frozen water bottles in their coops, portable fans in the run and ice cubes in their water. I also mixed up some electrolyte solution to add to their water. Hoping we are all rid of the worst of it in a couple of days.
Look after yourselves.
Hi Daisy, yep, love those kids, they make my heart happy! You’re doing wonderful things for the chickens-I remember seeing a gal who froze fruit in her ice cubes for them as well. You’re so sweet to take care of them-not everyone would do that. You have a good heart. Take care of yourself as well. I’m sure you’re up early like I am, trying to do what needs doing before the heat kicks in. And you’re right, I think it’s only a few more days. July and August are usually our worst months, not looking forward to them. Take care
DeleteHa ha! Mothman! Isn't that the "cryptoid" that someone at some point decided was actually some govt secret testing involving parachutes? In any event, it sounds right up my alley - and the town looks charming. I love the cabinets you are considering. That first one does have possibilities?? What a fun way to celebrate the Solstice. That was the beginning of our record-setting heatwave...and my a/c crisis (worse than not only not working...but blowing hot air unchecked) so there wasn't much celebrating going on here. I'm glad you are able to spend such wonderful time with your children.
ReplyDeleteOh Robin, you know more than I do about Mothman! I know they talked a lot about the Men in Black who were in town- too much. The white cabinet is about 20 minutes away, the red one is listed in a town that’s about an hour and a half from me - a friend shared the picture, and I’m finding out tonight it’s on Facebook marketplace. I’ve truly been trying to avoid Facebook-sitting here, pondering if I have to open an account just so I can message someone about it-ugh. Good grief between the heat and the AC-you can’t catch a break. Our heat pump went out a few years ago. The repair was about a semester’s college tuition. So, put in a couple of window air conditioners, and deal with it another time. It’s always something! Take care of yourself, love it when you stop by - kindred spirits!
