a peek at the week..

apple tree blossoms

burning fallen tree limbs
(oh yes, s‘mores are a must!)

a kinda spooky-looking tractor
in the dust and sunlight

forsythia bush waiting to be planted,

along with a snowball bush
(It’s so small - I’ll have to mark it well!)

Moms always know a dandelion
makes a spring bouquet more special
(thanks 😊)

morning shadows
(I have a “thing” for aprons and hats -
 translation? I can’t get enough!)

to me - so pretty up close

sunsets after a rain

making my first focaccia
on these rainy May days

an extra-special treat - a double rainbow
after a storm

And that’s what’s happening in my corner of the world. Lots of rain, storms, and severe weather watches, but also birdsong & blooms. The days change from opening windows and enjoying the cool breeze, to having a crackling fire going most nights this week - higgedly-piggedly as they say!

Cooking up lots of favorites - my son is home from college for a couple of weeks, but will be spending the summer on Campus for his job (sigh)  - loving the laughter I hear between him and his sister!

Now I’m off to bake bread for the Farmers’ Market in town and make chili - yes, it feels like sweater weather!  Hoping you have a lovely day whatever you are up to!

  2. Such beautiful glimpses into your world. It almost looks like a cross between spring and fall. We've had a couple of nice temperate days but last night we had frost and are under a frost warning again tonight. Your focaccia looks amazing...first time, eh? Looks like a pro to me. Enjoy your time with your son...those days slip away too quickly.

    1. It was 39 here last night- OK with me, I’m hoping for a much cooler summer this year-humidity makes me grouchy! Thank you, but the focaccia recipe was really easy-my little secret! And Robin you’re so right, I try not to think about it. Where have the years gone? Yes, that’s how it should be, but boy there are days that I really struggle. Today everyone’s in different directions so I’m going to bury myself in yardwork. Just not think about it!!

    1. Hi Daisy, my daughter‘s been wanting to try making focaccia for a long time, and it was a really easy recipe. We had it alongside lasagna, but I’m guessing if I sliced it thinly it could make for some terrific sandwiches. Thank you for the kind wishes-the kids do the cooking on Mother’s Day, so it’s always a treat!

  4. I have lots of aprons hanging from doors and pegs here I love them too and a couple of favorite straw hats. I do wear a ball cap when I walk though.
We have been very rainy but when it does clear up it is very warm just doesn't last long. We have new neighbors they bought an elderly neighbor's house. They have 2 young children although we cannot see them through the woods it is nice to hear the giggles and screams of joy coming from that direction.
That's for the idea I was wondering what to do with the lb of hamburger left in the frig chili it is!

    1. Yay - glad to know you’re an apron lover as well! And I agree, ball caps are best for walking. The chili really hit the spot-it was 39 here last night! Now, not that I’m complaining, I absolutely hate the humidity and heat of summer, maybe we’ll have a cooler one this year! And I love that sound of children’s laughter-although it 21 and 24 mine aren’t really children anymore, but I love to know that they’re getting along and laughing together. Some friends were helping us clean up some fallen limbs and brush around the silos afterward their kids went to the top floor of the barn and had their own barn dance. The laughter was amazing to hear!
