Friday hello…

Thank you for the sweet Mother’s Day good wishes…I appreciate them! We had the most wonderful copycat, Olive Garden fettuccine Alfredo, and a delicious chocolate mousse - I love it when the kids cook!

My son is leaving Saturday after a nice long visit home before his college summer job, so we’re in the throes of laundry, grocery shopping, and wrapping up a movie marathon. Tonight we’re trying pizza from a little place in a small town South of us, then tomorrow I’ll try to hold back the tears (unsuccessfully) sigh, and so it goes.

I’ve decided it’s fine time to bring back good, old-fashioned Sunday drives. And so last week, that’s what we did. Here’s just a few of the things we saw…

I wandered through an old canal town last Saturday, and I got inspired to plant a weaver’s garden like one I saw there. Do I weave? Uh, no. It’s been ages since my first lesson after someone gave me a table-top loom - and I do mean AGES!  But I thought why not plant a fun little garden and take advantage of the weaving classes that are offered in that small canal village? (in an 1800’s school house!)  here are some of the plants I saw – now to track them down.

Any advice from weavers is always welcome!

And so that’s the latest from here - have a happy weekend!

  1. It sounds like a wonderful way to spend Mother's Day! (And two of my favorite foods!!) And old-fashioned Sunday drives... I remember so well the "drives" of my childhood. We didn't have much (no vacations, fancy toys, etc.), but it was the one thing my mum and dad loved to do with us and we loved it equally. The weaver's garden sounds wonderful!! Do keep us posted on your progress. We had about a week of wonderful almost-summer-like weather but, after a few wicked storms last night and this afternoon, it has turned unpleasantly cold - and it looks like it's going to stay that way for at least the next week. Boo hoo.

    1. Oh the food was terrific, I can't complain at all - will share the Alfredo recipe if you'd like, it seemed so simple! Heading out for a drive now...it's a little cloudy, but I just feel it's good for the soul. And I love to hear you enjoyed it as a kid...I should have thought of it when mine were little. Oh well, there's joy knowing my daughter loves it as much as I do even now. It's chilly here today, but as I said, maybe, just maybe, it'll be a less humid summer - fingers crossed! Take care Robin.

  2. Your flowers are beautiful. And I hope you won't be too sad once your son leaves. It never gets any easier does it?
No weaving advice, I'm afraid, but I would love to give it a try. Xx

    1. Thanks Jules, for the sweet wishes. You're right, it doesn't get any easier. Even though they're doing what they should, chasing their own dreams...it's still hard. I've just booked the weaving class...I'll let you know how it turns out!

  3. Sounds like your Mother's Day went perfectly. I can imagine how hard it must be to let your baby go off into the world. I'd be right there with you.
What a bevy of bovine beauties you saw on your car trip! And so much more. Keep us posted on the weaver's garden. Never heard of that before.
    Have a splendiferous weekend!

    1. Daisy, thank you so much...it is hard for me, I'm a worrier - the world is a topsy-turvy place, and it doesn't take much for me to get weepy. Time to keep busy and dig into things that need doing to pass the time! Awww, I love your "bevy of bovine beauties" phrase! My daughter often says she's the Bovine Bandit, and it would be so easy to hop the fence and put one in the back seat!!

  4. A lovely Mother's Day! A Sunday drive sounds nice. I have most of those plants Just not the first two. I am a traditional rug hooker and I dye some of my wool. Dying with plants is a whole other thing I have done it and different plants need different methods.
you will have fun sourcing the plants.

    1. Morning Cathy! I’m not sure exactly where I’ll go with this little garden, but the idea just intrigued me. I signed up for a rug weaving class so who knows - I’ll have to do my homework, as you said, it’ll be different than opening a box of dye!

    1. Janice - thanks so much, cows everywhere! Love seeing the little calves, too. Cattle are mostly what’s around us - along with some sheep and horses. I think a good old Sunday drive just might be a new stress reliever!
