Egentid...

Another 2-hour delay for schools today...yay!  It's a treat to have a couple of extra hours in the morning to sleep, and then putter around a quiet farmhouse before the sun rises.

The icy winds are blowing and the snow-covered ground is so frozen it squeaks as I walk across it. However; a good down vest and a heavy farm coat keep me warm as I move from feeding goats and chickens, to filling bird feeders. In this chill, I step briskly while enjoying the peaceful morning and invigorating air.

trees dusted with frost,

as well as wind chimes and a boot scraper,

and a very frozen rain chain.

Back inside, it's time for some herbal tea...a fruity blend called Berry Jam. I'll sip it from an old Blue Willow teacup that belonged to my mother-in-law, while remembering the Swedish word, Egentid...meaning, time on my own.

I think I'll invite a couple of friends to "join" me...often we'll set up a day & time to have tea...while not together, we each know the others are joining us in spirit.

Wishing each of you time for Egentid today.

  1. Sounds like a wonderful morning! Egenid time for me today was just spending time with my two kitties whilst my hubby took our puppy to our store today. I love when hoarfrost hits the trees! Janice

  2. Janice, glad you had some quiet time to snuggle kitties! I agree...the hoarfrost is beautiful. it's gone now, but I'm hoping for more...one model has us getting a foot of snow! That's okay with me...I'm a homebody so a fire, some baking, and an old movie will be just right. Hope all is well...your shop windows look lovely! -Mary

  3. What a wonderful post! I love the photos of the frost on things. It makes even the mundane so beautiful. Morning and evening chores here are quite chilly as well but the gentle hum and consistent warmth of the pellet stove in the house is so much more appreciated after them! The berry jam tea sounds amazing and drinking it from such a beautiful cup full of memories is extra special.

  4. Thanks for stopping by Staci...I know you're settling into some well-deserved R&R. I hope you're enjoying the quiet time, as well as time to do the things you love. Feet up by the fire, sipping tea, watching the winter birds at the feeder, reading a favorite book...winter seems perfect for it!
